The mermaid symbol, which is part of the Gothenburg Book Fair logo, has a new meaning in anticipation of the 40th anniversary. It now represents a literary prize, known as Sjojungfrun, in Swedish. The first ever "Mermaid award" was given to the author Joyce Carol Oates. Her gripping fiction has deeply moved Swedish readers."I am grateful for the opportunity to work with you".
