Adapting to innovations is crucial for staying ahead in the tech industry. The emergence of the General Purpose Multimedia Interface (GPMI) offers significant advancements in video technology. Spearheaded by the Shenzhen 8K Ultra HD Video Industry Collaboration and supported by over 50 leading enterprises such as Huawei, Skyworth, Hisense, and TCL, GPMI addresses the limitations of traditional video equipment, which required separate power and video signal connections. This breakthrough standard supports up to 144Gbps of high bandwidth and a robust 480W power supply, facilitating seamless two-way interaction of audio-visual signals, data, and control signals across devices while supporting up to 128-node mesh networking.
Compatible with USB Type-C interfaces, the GPMI Type-C port supports data transmission of up to 96Gbps and power transmission of up to 240W. The larger GPMI Type-B port offers even greater capabilities, with 192Gbps of data bandwidth and 480W power supply, and supports reversible plug design for user convenience. GPMI's ability to simultaneously transmit audio-visual, data, and power signals paves the way for modular split-screen televisions, allowing consumers to mix, match, and upgrade their TV's 'mainframe' and 'screen' with just one GPMI cable connection. Moreover, the bidirectional transmission of control signals enables the integration of devices such as set-top boxes and televisions, creating a seamless entertainment experience across the home with just one remote. Additionally, GPMI Type-C interfaces, which are compatible with portable devices and the USB Type-C ecosystem, have already received SVID approval from the USB Association. Existing devices can also be enhanced with GPMI adapters, allowing users to unlock a wider array of new functionalities.
